Costa Rica Fishing: Caribbean
Travel destination review

Caribbean:
Costa Rica’s Caribbean coastal region is an often overlooked fishing destination, but exciting inshore fishing for huge tarpon and snook make Costa Rica’s East Coast worth a second look.  Wild, unspoiled beaches run all along the coast, and wildlife refuges, and national parks among the dense rainforest areas offer a taste of true jungle paradise.  The towns along the eastern shore are rich with Caribbean flavor and diversity. Barra del Colorado, near the Nicaraguan border offers the best tarpon fishing in the world.  Tarpon run freely up and down the Rio Colorado and charter fishing opportunities abound on the river, at the river mouth, and in open water near shore.

Snook and Cubera snapper are also widely caught here.  Occasional offshore fishing for marlin and sailfish are also available on Costa Rica’s Caribbean coast off Barra del Colorado. Tortuguero National Park is a popular destination.  Eco-tourism is a growing industry in this lush and intricate rainforest area offering lagoons, lakes, rivers, dense tropical foliage, unspoiled beaches and diverse wildlife both on land and in the water.   These remote beaches are popular turtle nesting areas, and guided tours are available.  Beautiful coral reefs teeming with colorful sea life offer fantastic scuba and snorkeling.
